How can a mentor help me?
Each relationship with a mentor is unique
Following is a snapshot of help a mentor can provide:
- Personal support to those with ASD, and their families.
- Help to understand the influences of ASD and how that is represented in behaviors.
- Tips on understanding how others perceive some ASD behaviors.
- Guidance with identifying personal goals and finding ways to achieve those goals.
- Help individuals to develop the skills they wish to improve.
- Provide information on ASD, professional services, publications, and support services.
We also offer peer support through:
- Support/sharing of ideas, experience and information.
- Learning from others about ASD and how this has influenced their lives.
- Developing an understanding of themselves, leading to increased confidence.
- Breaking down the barriers of communication by practicing socializing with peers.
- Comfort and understanding gained through being with others on the spectrum.
- Increasing self awareness, confidence and self esteem.
- Providing a sense of belonging.
