ASD Mentors is a volunteer based group committed to providing mentoring and peer support group to adults on the Autism Spectrum
Our first meeting held mid February was well attended with 11 people joining us.
The meetings are relexed and informal. You can either choose to join in the group discussion, or listen - it is entirely up to you.
It was great too see such a mixed group people and we hope to them all again, or have some ‘newbies’ join us!
I noticed that not everyone attending had taken advantage of some of the great incentives/benefits and assistance that is out there.
Here is a quick reminder of what those on the spectrum may be entitled to:
- NT Pensioners and Carer Support Scheme (NT Dept of Health) offer discounts off car registration, Power and Water and council rates. Conditions apply so check the website for details. You will need a current card to be eligible.
- Carers NT also provide respite, education and training, counseling along with a host of other services.
- Another great site that you will find heaps of information and support on for territorians is the AutismNT site. Jammed packed with local events and news, this is a useful resource.
